Our client for this project is an oil and gas brand recognized all over the globe. With over a century as leaders in the industry, they continue to embrace technology and innovation to develop Canadian energy in a safe and responsible manner to meet the needs of modern lifestyles.

This particular project involved a bitumen extraction and development plant in Alberta. The innovative techniques they use for extraction include energy-saving cogeneration, which increases operational efficiency, reduces draw on the energy grid, and lowers greenhouse gas emissions.

THE CLIENT'S NEED

As anyone in the oil and gas industry knows, winters in Alberta can see extreme temperature drops. It’s crucial for extraction systems to be appropriately winterized to protect the viscosity of the resources in the pipes.

The solution is to have the heat management system inspected and upgraded for added protection against the effects of frigid weather. Winterization not only keeps production moving but also extends the lifespan of the equipment it’s protecting.

The client already had a winterization plan in place, but their existing program was disjointed, lacking synergy between the different electrical, insulation, rope access, and scaffolding contractors. Their goal was to streamline processes and reduce costs without sacrificing project quality or system performance.

We had previously engaged with the client’s maintenance and winterization group about our MSCP heat trace products. Based on those constructive interactions, the winterization group asked us for a heat management proposal to get the plant ready for the upcoming winter.

MSCP'S APPROACH

After learning every detail of the client’s heat management system, we presented our winterization solution, which integrated the entire winterization process.

At the heart of our solution is our in-house team of heat trace, insulation, and rope access specialists . Utilizing our sole-source solution instead of contractors from several different companies, clients can significantly reduce their project costs. Our model would also eliminate 90 percent of the scaffold work without affecting quality.

Additionally, under our approach, the client wouldn’t have to make multiple calls to different contractors to deal with winterization issues. Just a single phone call or email to MSCP is all it takes to answer any question about their heat trace winterization or start a new project. We take on all project management and coordination so the client can focus on other areas of their company.

During our presentation, we introduced digital work packages. These packages contain photos taken in the field that visually documented the work our specialists completed that day. The client had never seen anything like it before.
